The white high-chromium iron alloy (upon ASTM A532 standard) has been gradually used over the decades (especially in the mining industry) for commodity parts so they can remain in service for a longer period of time before they are replaced by new parts.
Not only this material can be recycled in the foundry process to inifinity (read article in the first link below) resulting in buying parts that features a lighter environmental foot print; but the several tests conducted with Penticton foundry’s customers has demonstrated that white high-chromium ironc can sometimes outlast parts of CCO material by 20 times (read article in the 2nd link below).
